PET trade organization says PET and PLA Plastics can not be recycled together.  The National Association for PET Container
Resources (NAPCOR) today refuted the premise that polylactic acid (PLA) containers can be successfully mixed in to the
existing stream of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) containers, citing concerns over cost of separation; increased
contamination and yield loss; and impact on recycled PET (RPET) quality and processing.

San Franciscans already lead the nation in recycling – in May they announced a 72% diversion rate of all materials going to the
landfill – but they want to do more.
 Last week San Francisco passed the nation’s first mandatory recycling and composting
laws. The city has pledged to recycle 75% of the materials by 2010 and be zero waste by 2020.
